I am so grateful in my life to know many amazing people - and this family happens to contain some of them. ;) We just happened to meet about 4.5 years ago when they walked in front of our house and we started up a conversation about our garden - our sweet girls are 1 month apart in age ---- and they ended up just living 4 houses down!

Since then we have celebrated the birth of a few more children, shared many dinners and laughs together, and we look forward to many years of fun to come! Becca has become one of my most wonderful friends - she's my cheerleader and positive advice gal - I wouldn't trade her for the world!

I've gotten to photograph them once or twice (or maybe a bit more than that) - this year we went out on a beautiful fall evening - it was a bit chilly, but nothing a fun leaf fight can't cure. ;)

I am so fortunate in my chosen profession to meet so many wonderful and amazing people - I treasure each family that comes my way, I love seeing the different dynamics, chatting with all of the kids, hearing the crazy toddler stories, watching the families grow and change. I've gotten to know some of the families quite well over the years and it really is like a holiday reunion sometimes!

This family is no exception - I've seen them a few times over the years and I can STILL remember how teeny big sister seemed the first time I met her --- and now look at them grow!

Holiday Mini-Session time! :) What a BLAST! It's my favourite time of year - not only because the holidays are on the way, but the Holiday Mini-Sessions bring in all my favourite families, I get to see how the kids have changed, everyone's dressed so pretty, I get to blast my Christmas music at the end of October, it's busy and fun - just the way I like it - I kind of live off of the chaos sometimes. ;)

You know that friend you have - the one who just knows what to say and when to say it? Who knows when you're seeking support or advice or when you're just looking to vent a little. That friend who loves your children like her own and just accepts you as you are, all the time?

Meet my friend Candis and her amazing family - I don't know if I could ever properly put into words the extraordinary woman I am blessed to call my friend. She has been my cheerleader from day one with my photography - encouraging me and lifting me up in my moments of doubt and I can honestly say if it weren't for her in my life I wouldn't have taken the big leap of faith.

I am forever grateful for having her in my life. I love and adore her and her family, she is my son's Godmother and our families have spent numerous occasions together, watching our children grow and play, seeing life change and move before us - she's one of those friends I just know I'll be drinking coffee with until the end of time. ;)

And now I'll stop rambling and let the photos do the rest. I had the great opportunity to photograph Candis and her fun crew one wonderful autumn afternoon - probably one of the best leaf fights I've ever witnessed. ;)

Argh Me Matey! ~See Shel's Photography~

We survived the week-end! I had a TOTAL blast at the Wide Open Pirate & Princess dress-up party - I had the honour of meeting so many super awesome little ones, it was so much fun - I can't wait for next year!

Then this morning I survived my daughter's 6th birthday party at the bowling ally - everyone had fun and no one got their fingers squished so life was good there.

And then this afternoon I had the pleasure of photographing the sweetest 9 day old little guy and his adorable little cousin! (nothing makes your own 11 week old baby seem huge than holding a newborn again.....wow!)

So now I'm editing like a mad woman and preparing all of the props for the Holiday Mini-Sessions next week-end - I love this time of year!

Calling All Pirates and Princesses! ~See Shel's Photography~

This week-end brings all sorts of fun things, the lead up to Hallowe'en, my daughter's 6th birthday party (how is she six already!?!?!) aaaaaand......... The Wide Open Pirate and Princess fundraiser! (check here for more details) If you've never experienced one of their puppet shows you NEED to put it on your to do list - my children have enjoyed a few of their shows and it's certainly something we plan on continuing to enjoy in the future!

The Pirate and Princess party is sure to be a blast, there are a tonne of activities for everyone and I'll be there taking photos of all the pirates and princesses! I'm very much looking forward to it, I hope to see you there! :)

Bright And Beautiful

I'm still here! Trying to balance life with 3 kids - thankfully I have a most wonderful 9 week old baby that makes things easier than they could be. :)

Life is always moving and changing - and just when you think you got it all going there's a little twist - my mom is in the hospital again so there have been a few more trips down to Regina to see her and help out my family which is really the only excuse I have for my lack of blogging - something just had to give for a bit and I guess the blog took the hit!

I hope everyone is having a fabulous fall - the holiday mini-sessions are all fully booked - as are my regular sessions for the rest of 2011! I look forward to seeing all of the smiling faces! I am currently booking up to the end of March 2012 for anyone who is expecting - the rest of my year opens up in February for booking - I can't wait to see what that new year will bring - but for now I'll just try and survive the next 2.5 months. ;)

Remember last week-end when the weather was GORGEOUS - and really, REALLY hot? Like above 30 hot?

That was the day we ended up doing fall photos with my husband's family --- and had to convince 5 kids to dress in warm fall clothing, and look happy --- all at the same time. ;) Us adults felt bad --- and all ended up promising them something different without the others knowing so the kids actually made out really well - this photo only cost us:

A special craft after supper
S'mores for dessert.......and a firepit to sit around ;)

It was WELL worth it though - they did fabulous despite the very hot weather! :)

In the world of photography and printing it's that time of year - time to start thinking about holiday cards!

As with previous years, I will be doing in-studio Christmas mini-sessions- these are held inside my studio, on a white back-drop with Christmas props (sleighs, candy canes, presents, etc.) They are quick and fun - lasting 20 minutes, resulting in 6-8 colour proofs. We had a great time the last couple of years, I can not wait to see what this year brings! We aim for a family photo, a photo of all the children together, a photo of each child separately and something fun! This is the only time during the year I hold mini-sessions for families so they do book up fast!

In studio holiday mini-session are priced at $150+ PST ($157.50 total) and include:

* session fee

* online password protected proofing album

* Full resolution photo files on a disc for your printing and archiving needs

* 25 double sided 5x7 custom Christmas Cards with envelopes

***no substitution of products please - limited to immediate family members only. Due to allergies I am unable to accommodate pets in my studio*****

There will be no further dates added this year, once they're filled up a cancellation list will be started so I do suggest booking as quickly as possible to get the time slot of your choice!

Back In the Saddle ~See Shel's Photography~

When I first found out we were expecting this summer I didn't know what exactly my future held - I planned on taking some time off, to enjoy life, newborn snuggles, adjust to reality --- then Miss Anna came along and has decided that sleeping through the night is a really awesome thing to do from the get-go ---- which leaves me really quite rested and well, missing photography!

Then I got an email from the mother of the handsome little dude below that informed me he was turning one (already??? Didn't we just do his newborn and 6th month portraits? Man time flies!) The weather was amazing - I was feeling great and itching to do some shooting - so away we went, and boy am I glad I did - who can resist this!

He's walking and as super cute as ever!! What a great way to jump back into it!

So I'm back at it - but in a limited capacity - my 4 week old baby protests at the idea of me jumping back into it all too much ;) In order to keep photo quality and client care at a high standard, for the remainder of 2011 I am booking a VERY limited number of sessions (as of tonight I have room for 3 more) - I realize this means I won't be able to fit in everyone this year, but I will have ample space for all next year I promise. ;)

I have a lot of things in the work and can't wait to roll them all out once I'm back at this all in full swing in the new year!

We've been slowly adjusting to diapers and no sleep again over the past 3 weeks - and it's finally feeling like life is getting back to "normal" (as normal as it gets with 3 children I suppose!)

I'm slowly gathering my brain cells as well and working on a plan for the remainder of 2011 - I'm hoping to be up and running in the near future with limited available sessions - once I have everything together I'll be sure to announce it on here and on my facebook group when I'm open for bookings!

Well - what to do when you're 41 weeks pregnant and the evening light is perfect? Grab the kids and head on out! They each got to grab something from the prop room and away we went for fun - no real purpose - they got to do their thing (including kung fu moves and silly faces) and it was great! :)

I had a great time with them! :)

This pregnancy has thrown us for a loop - from 30 weeks on we were told I needed to be on a modified rest schedule as baby made strong indications they were planning on joining us (too) early. And now here we are at 10 days "over due" - none of us ever expected to have me still waddling around, LOL! So hopefully - the next blog post will be a birth announcement! ;)

It's hard to believe he's 9 months old already! So we braved the heat (it was HOT!!!!) and mosquitos and went out with his big sister - who totally encaps what it is to be five - lost teeth and all! :) The hot day was so worth it - I had a blast and am so inspired to get back out there ----- if this baby ever comes out. ;)

Still here, waddling along, enjoying the long week-end! I've been enjoying my time off, being "just a mom" for the past 2 weeks before my mother duties increase by 1 very shortly - it's been a nice break of not having to run and answer emails, phone calls, check the weather for upcoming sessions, get galleries posted, and albums created - but on the other hand I also miss it quite a bit. ;) I'm looking forward to finding our new "normal" around here!

In the mean time we're just trying to enjoy every last second of our newbornless days - we've been to several splash parks, jumped at Crickle Creek, had picnics in many different parks, visited Kinsmen Park, had numerous playdates with friends and neighbours, caught up on some little projects (like making our 2010 yearbook and backing up the photos - whew), checking out the Fringe Festival, taking advantage of the fun Playground Programs, being regulars at the local library and timing contractions.

Whew.

I'm ready to have this baby and have a break. ;)

Everyone meet the beautiful Jamie!

She is one of those women who just lights up the room - the instant you meet her you just feel the bubbly personality and positive nature of this wonderful gal! I met her a couple of years ago to do her son's first birthday session (complete with cake smash - a lot of fun!) - and I have looked forward to seeing her family ever since. :)

I was incredibly honoured she let me take photos of just HER - something us mothers just don't do - it was an interesting situation as I've never photographed a mother alone really before other than maternity photos - but even then you have a bump to stand behind. I loved it - I loved that the images were just about her as a woman, not just a mother but everything else that makes Jamie so wonderful - and it has totally gotten the gears turning and I have big plans for next year. :)

So thank you Jamie for letting me waddle around with you on such a gorgeous summer evening!

My final outdoor session before baby comes was one I was SO looking forward to - I met this family a couple of years ago when their eldest daughter was graduating - and now it was time for daughter number 2! I don't know if I can properly express how wonderful these girls are - they are so beautiful inside and out - the whole family just radiates the most wonderful positive vibe! I was looking forward to this session from the day it was booked!

I was once again privileged to be invited out to their acreage, and despite the wild wind and harsh sun we had a great time! Thank you so much for having me out!

There is a baby boom in this city once again (seems to happen every time I"m pregnant!) - I was SO thrilled when this family contacted me about their newest addition - I had the honour and privilege of photographing their first child a year and a half ago and now I get to meet the newest little guy in their family on Friday! (I'm figuring that at 36 weeks pregnant it will give me enough positive baby vibes to get me through this heat!)

I did actually get outside a few times this year! I know this is what I'm going to miss most with being on mat leave during the summer - but I'm pretty sure the newborn snuggles will take away the sting. ;)

This little guy had the total toddler package - and had everything I love about photographing toddlers! Everything is so new an exciting outside - birds, trees, grass - it's almost magical for them and I love the look of amazement and wonder! It's busy, but so much fun!

You KNOW it's really, truly summer when you can go and thoroughly enjoy Saskatoon's Kinsmen Park!

We are completing our "summer vacation" this week - we had to get it in before this baby made an appearance - so we just finished off a few nights camping at Pike Lake (don't know if I recommend that activity at 35 weeks pregnant, just for the record) and now 2 days of a "staycation" - today we hit up Kinsmen Park - we had a picnic lunch, played some Bocce Ball, jumped from rocks, took full advantage of the great playground and of course - had to end off with the rides. :)

It really does NOT feel that long ago when I was taking their newborn photos! I have a lot of clients who either have survived, are in the middle of or are about to enter into the land of "2 under 2" - it's a club you can never fully understand until you're there. ;) It brings back SO many memories for me - and gives me a huge appreciation of where we are now.

I love the challenge that comes with photographing this particular situation - it really and truly is the definition of capturing life "as it is now" - fun, chaotic, a little noisy and super cute! When my children were little I just wanted that "perfect" photo of them together ---- and now when I look back my most favourite are the ones where it shows just exactly how chaotic and wonderful things were at that moment in our lives. (I'll have to dig some up to share - always good for a laugh.)

Whirlwind ~See Shel's Photography~

I feel really weird blogging a photo of myself....... ;)

I did a quick mini-session when my studio was set-up for the last time a week and a half ago - this is the only photo I've processed so far as I'm frantically trying to complete all of the sessions and product orders before this little guy or gal makes their appearance!

I get a lot of emails and calls about what's going on in that big old belly of mine (I have such wonderful clients!) - so I figured I should just blog it quickly before I forget!

When I first found out this sweet little girl or boy will be joining our life I hemmed and hawed, and hawed and hemmed about what date to continue shooting until - I wanted to make sure I could fit everyone in who wanted to, but also knew after doing this a time or two before how huge and waddly (and TIRED) I would eventually feel - and as I see these beautiful evenings filled with gorgeous light my heart hurts a bit not being out there ----- but the rest of my pregnant body yells out "YOU MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE SHELEN" - I completed shooting my final session on Saturday evening and I ended it on a huge bang - can't wait to share in the near future!

This was supposed to be our "easy last baby" - which every mother who is reading this right now is laughing and can probably predict what's been going on. ;) We've gotten to know the wonderful nurses at the RUH labour and delivery floor quite well as this little turkey has been giving us a few reminders of just who is in control already - but so far so good - just lots of rest (ha ha!) and we should be good to go for the next 7 weeks!

So though I'm done shooting sessions for now (and I WILL be back soon - I'm not gone forever, I just know how unpredictable these babies are and want to make sure everything's in order before returning full time) I'm still here, I have a tonne of sessions to blog about, a few sessions to finish proofing and present and a HUGE list of ideas I can NOT wait to implement when I return! My idea list has grown long over the past few months!

I will most definitely let you all know when he/she makes their grand entrance - maybe even share a photo or two (hundred)

I was a bit bummed when I realized I wouldn't be able to do my tutu mini-session special this year- pregnancy just sucked my energy and if I couldn't do it full on wonderful I knew I'd have to just wait until next year - then an opportunity came up to do just one little quick one - and I'm a sucker for a sweetie in a pink tutu so I couldn't resist!

Between the ages of 18 months and 3 years is one of THE hardest to photograph - especially in a studio session, but I actually REALLY enjoy this age a lot for many reasons - one being everything is so fresh and new to them - outside if we find a pinecone it is like treasure! In the studio bubbles can be miracle workers - I love it! They're still teeny -- just with big personalities. ;)

I met this princess just a few weeks before this - only this time I got to focus all my attention on her - and I had so much fun. It made me resolve to bring back the tutu session for next year. :)

It's that time of year! Very interesting story with this session!

I met this beautiful woman and her daughter last year for the Tutu Mini-Sessions, then at Christmas when their family came for a session they announced they were expecting baby number 2! The most interesting part of this maternity session was the baby came THAT NIGHT, so we actually caught her final day of being pregnant. :)

Once in a while I actually do get around to photographing my own sweeties. ;) And more than once in awhile it involves some sort of bribe --- there's got to be some sort of perk right?

So without further adiu - my darling little "baby boy"! (anyone know a secret to stop them from growing so fast!?)

In the land of Shelen - I'm alive and kicking - and so is the baby in my belly - pretty sure I'm growing the next kung fu panda in there! Time is FLYING by - I can't really believe that in 3 months I'll have my own sweet baby to snuggle (and photograph once or twice.....or 23 times). For the most part it's been a pretty great pregnancy, a few little issues here or there but I'm "taking it easy" and it seems to be working! :)

I would like to take a moment to thank my clients, family and friends for all of their support and kind words over the years - I am truly blessed and thankful you let me into your lives, let me snuggle your babies and watch your families grow - it is a huge highlight in my life to see the teeny babies go from sleeping (or not sleeping) newborns to full on walking, talking children!

I have a huge list of "post baby belly" ideas that I am just ITCHING to try and run with - I am very excited to get back into the full swing of things after the baby comes - I can't wait to share all of the ideas - there's a lot of fun things coming up! (I AM returning - cross my heart!)

So again thank you! I'm looking forward to the next 2 months of sessions --- and really looking forward to my maternity leave. :)

I met this very handsome young man on his 1st birthday (and then a time or two in between then)- it's very hard to believe he's 3 now! It's been so very wonderful watching him change and grow. :)
He reminds me a lot of my own 3 year old son - quite reserved and shy when someone other than mom is talking to him, but you can see that little twinkle and spark in those eyes and you know there's a firecracker in there! :)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I think it's the Elementary Teacher in me - it's ingrained, you have to celebrate all of the holidays. And not just the major ones - even the obscure ones that no one really knows exists - except for teachers. Like Earth Day. And Grandparent's Day. (really - it's on September 11 this year). My kiddies are at school tomorrow for the real St. Patrick's day, so we held our own festivities today - we crafted it up, played in the snow and finished off with some cupcake making - though I'll admit the cupcakes were born out of a pregnancy craving (thank you cupcake girls on tv - I need to watch less food shows while pregnant!) I even made my own icing from scratch - which if you know anything about me is HUGE. I'm not very refined in the culinary arts. ;)

We had a fabulous day - I had a well needed break from my computer for a few hours. Hope you all have a wonderful day - don't forget to wear the green!

I can't exactly say pregnancy is kicking my behind - it's kind of a combo of being pregnant and my husband travelling for work 23 of the past 30 days - but mostly it's just pregnancy. ;) Feeling good overall just trying to keep that baby brain on track and energy up!

Speaking of pregnancy - I had the most gorgeous mama-to-be in the other day! She's due "any day now" so I can not wait!!! What a fabulous winter day in Saskatoon today!!

This morning I had the honour of doing a super maternity session, followed by a newborn session with an amazing couple in the early afternoon! After that we were off to the river to enjoy some skating and sunshine! The weather was gorgeous and we all enjoyed some well deserved fun family time. :)

Really - it doesn't get much sweeter than this!!! :) This darling baby girl and her (little) big brother were the final cute faces to grace my lens in 2010 (shhhh - yes, I'm far behind in blogging!! I know!)

I love, love, LOVE seeing sibling interactions - it warms my heart watching my own two snuggle one another - I can just picture all of the future fun these two are going to have!

Are you expecting a new baby in 2011? I strongly suggest booking your newborn (and/or maternity) photos as soon as possible - before the baby makes their apparence in our world! One less thing to try and juggle on sleepless nights. ;)

I have many people worried about choosing a date as we never know when these darling creatures will arrive - don't worry! What we usually do is pick a session date and then move it up or down when needed - I fully understand that babies come late, early or sometimes there are some special circumstances surrounding it all - we'll work around everything! :) Book in your time now, let me know if baby comes early/late and we'll get those beautiful, sweet images when they come!

As I've mentioned earlier, I am not booking sessions past June 11 of this year as i'm expecting my own baby this summer - at this very moment February is fully booked, and March and April each have 1 more available session.

Looking for an outdoor session? In the past things haven't "greened" up around here until the May long week-end (and sometimes later than that) - I have very limited availability this year so please book early in order to avoid disappointment!

This adorable little guy is a bit older than I usually have in my studio - it took some doing but he fit in the baskets! ;) So alert, so sweet --- and so enthralled with my ceiling fan - I had to work hard to compete! :) Every funny noise I made was worth it though - he's so sweet!! I got to meet his beautiful mama a little earlier in the year - I was patiently waiting to meet this young guy and we were finally able to meet up! Welcome to the world!

Yay for two!! This sweet girl has grown up in front of my lens - again so bittersweet, but incredibly neat to see! (I almost made a poem there!)

And sometimes in Saskatchewan the weather is just way too cold/wet/windy to be outside, but that doesn't stop us from having fun inside! :)

I met this family a couple of years ago when their daughter was just about 7 months old - and this time she brought a little brother along! :) We had hoped to do an outdoor session, but the weather was just not going our way so we went with plan B - and had a lot of fun!
